What is the Pupil Premium?
Halberton Primary supports all children to achieve and attain to the highest level possible. The school additionally receives Pupil Premium funding.
The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of pupils who are vulnerable to underachievement and close the gap between them and their peers.
It is paid to schools according to the number of pupils who have been:
- registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years
- been in care for 6 months or longer
What kind of support do we provide for pupil premium children?
The school tracks the progress of children who are eligible for Pupil Premium funding both as a group and individually, additionally allocating specific teaching, guidance, challenge and support to ensure the funding enables Pupil Premium eligible children to attain to the highest possible level.
Some examples of how the funding is used include specific one to one or small group teaching, coaching and conferencing, parent liaison, additional support in specific subjects, early intervention, specialist teaching, speech and language development and social emotional development work.
What’s the impact of our support?
Children with Pupil Premium funding attain above the national level for Reading. Pupil premium children also make more than the average level of progress across Key Stage 2, and indeed across their whole time in school. The school is working extremely hard to ensure the gap in attainment between those without Pupil Premium and those with Pupil Premium is closed and to ensure all children attain and achieve highly, irrespective of their group. If you have any questions at all about this approach, please don’t hesitate to contact any member of staff.
Our 2016/17 Pupil Premium has contributed towards the cost of employing a Higher Level Teaching Assistant on a part time basis to help those children needing additional support and also to fund THRIVE for more pupils that benefit from one to one sessions with our THRIVE Co-ordinator.
